About Karl Hoffmann
A Story of Passion and Design
Karl Hoffmann was born from the shared vision of a couple — Fei Mestre, an e-commerce entrepreneur with a passion for art, and Christian Mestre, a lawyer and university professor.
Though their professional paths seemed far from the world of industrial design, both were united by a deep fascination for aesthetics, craftsmanship, and the dialogue between art and function.
From that intersection emerged Karl Hoffmann — a brand dedicated to transforming the ordinary door handle into an object of emotion and architectural expression.
Where Craftsmanship Meets Contemporary Vision
Fei Mestre, a graduate of a top French business school, has always been drawn to artistic creation, balancing business insight with an artist’s eye.
Christian Mestre, as president of the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris — which shares its campus with the École Camondo for interior architecture and design — found himself immersed in a creative ecosystem where design, structure, and space naturally converged.
It was in this environment that the couple recognized a gap in the market: architects and designers lacked truly refined, diverse, and high-quality door handles.
Most available models were limited in style and material quality — far from the needs of professionals seeking pieces that combined function, texture, and timeless elegance.
A Commitment to Creation and Collaboration
Driven by this discovery, Fei and Christian Mestre began collaborating with exceptional artisans and manufacturers, ensuring that every handle under the Karl Hoffmann name reflected precision, durability, and artistry.
But they didn’t stop there — they also sought to encourage young designers by launching the Karl Hoffmann Design Competition, open to students and graduates of Europe’s leading design and applied-arts schools.
Winning designs are produced and featured in the brand’s permanent collection, giving emerging talent the visibility and recognition they deserve.
Partnerships with Visionary Architects
Karl Hoffmann’s design philosophy is further enriched by collaborations with renowned architects such as Alain Sarfati and Thierry Melot.
These partnerships reflect a shared belief that architecture and detail must coexist — that a door handle can be an extension of architectural thought, not merely a functional accessory.
Through such exchanges, the brand continues to blur the line between design object and architectural gesture, reaffirming its position at the crossroads of art, craftsmanship, and contemporary living.
Celebrating Emotion in Everyday Design
Karl Hoffmann stands for a new approach to design — one that celebrates emotion, precision, and material honesty.
Every handle tells a story of human touch and artistic intention, combining the rigor of modern design with the warmth of handmade artistry.
More than hardware, Karl Hoffmann creates objects of character — made to be seen, felt, and remembered.
